Ma Bell’s Children Youth Empowerment
We are a non-profit organization that teaches youth to empower themselves through community outreach, financial literacy and money management, health literacy and peer health education, life skills and understanding the work force —because youth are the future.
At Ma Bell’s Children, we believe that empowering youth through serving their community, financial fitness, health fitness and learning life skills is just as important as physical fitness.
Through our hands-on and interactive programs, we help to empower the next generation with financial literacy skills, laying the groundwork for a secure financial future.
Our fun and interactive methods teach teens the importance of community involvement, how to problem solve and make informed decisions, and help to build strong foundations for the future—because empowering youth is empowering the future.
Services
We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering youth through community outreach, financial literacy and money management, health education (with) peer mentoring, (teaching) life skills and workforce readiness—because they are the future.

Financial Literacy Programming
We offer hands-on programs that help youth to learn important financial skills.
We cover all of the basics, including budgeting, saving, investing, and smart spending.
Each program is designed to give young people the tools they need to manage their money confidently.
By creating a friendly and interactive learning space, we teach today’s teens to take control of their fiscal fitness and flex their money muscles.

Performing Arts
We have performing arts programming to help local kids express themselves creatively.
Ma Bell’s Children has teamed up with Mama’s Birds Performing Arts Program (under the amazing artist, Sandy Redd), to provide programs in music, dance, and theater.
These classes not only nurture young talent but also build confidence and life skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Teen Empowerment Program
Specific to teens 13-18 years old promotes higher learning, accountability, and has a strong peer health education component.

Community Service
We work with the children to improve our community through cleaning up, volunteering for events (such as the food bank), and helping elderly citizens through offering our time in all capacities.

About Us
Ma Bell’s Children was predicated on the late Margaret Bell’s vision of helping young people to grow. Her daughter, Dr. Margo Bell returned to Gladewater, Texas, after dedicating over 25 years of her career as a pediatrician in Chicago. Upon her return, she noticed a gap in resources and support for local youth. This realization led her to pilot the first program specifically for (3) adolescent girls, then for all ages, and then adolescent boys.
What started as a small group of less than ten soon blossomed into a comprehensive performing arts program for all youth and an empowerment program targeting teens, addressing the clear need for education in these areas within the community. Dr. Bell recognized a critical need for financial education to help save children from future financial misery while empowering them to become great citizens.
Before becoming a pediatrician, Dr. Bell spent several years as a high school teacher, which deepened her commitment to teens. She is passionate about preparing adolescents for a successful future by equipping them with the skills they need for financial literacy, all while providing a positive and enriching experience during this pivotal time in their lives.
